The Therapy Of Probiotics For IBS

By Iva Cannon

An irritable bowel syndrome refers to a gastrointestinal disorder. This is similar to other disorders such as bloating and indigestions. The disorders are very disturbing to the comfort of an individual and thus require treatment. There is some treatment therapy which involves the use of probiotics for IBS control and regulation. You may have heard about this from friends and colleagues. The therapy involves using these living microorganisms in controlling the disorder.

Probiotics are small microorganisms which are living. They are the good type of bacteria. Unlike the bacteria commonly known for causing diseases in the body of humans, the bacteria in this case can have great health benefits especially if consumed in great amounts. They are highly present in foods and supplements. The normal body carries up to 500 species of these bacteria. Their function is to keep the body immune system healthy and also protect the intestines.

The use of antibiotics for any purpose results in an imbalance of the bacteria present in a gastrointestinal tract. This imbalance is dangerous as it results in damage of the intestinal lining. The result can be wounds which may cause you to end up with ulcers. The use of organisms like those present in the probiotics helps to restore this imbalance and an intestinal lining is made healthy again.

Apart from treating the IBS, the organisms in this bacteria also help in the treatment of other gastrointestinal disorders which include diarrhea, colitis, bloating, indigestion, and acid reflux. Some studies have been carried out to indicate how responsive the IBS symptoms are for various different probiotic medications.

Many of the studies conducted are small and of very low quality. However, some of the high quality studies have shown that there are some bacteria which are very effective in suppressing the symptoms of the Irritable bowel syndrome. One such bacterium is the Bifidobacterium infantis. This bacterium has shown consistent improvements in gas and bloating.

The bacteria can help regulate motility, immune and sensation. The probiotics come in many different forms. They can be in form of pills, capsules, powder or liquid state. There can also be combinations of different organisms in one. Yeast has also been observed to have some probiotic effects. Studies have been advanced to study the effect of these dead bacteria in this treatment.

When you are under this therapy, there are rules that you have to follow up to get the optimal benefits of utilizing this treatment. This includes; keeping the drugs refrigerated otherwise they become ineffective, you should also use different bacterial strains in order to be able to choose which among them is best. The therapy treatment should also be done immediately after using any antibiotics.

The drugs should be used in adequate dosages. You should not be afraid of an overdose in this case. The probiotics should be taken in adequate amount for maximum effects. You cannot overdose on this. They should however not be taken with food. They can either be used 30 minutes prior to eating or after it.
