Spa Neck Wrap Stress Relief

By Linda Ruiz

The daily pressures of life, work and family can create emotional issues that present as physical stress in the body and mental strain. These symptoms often show up in several ways, including muscles pains, fatigue, headaches and various types of discomfort. For relief, many people turn to intensive treatments such heated stones, deep tissue massage, acupuncture or an aromatic spa neck wrap in order to achieve relaxation.

Meditation and yoga are two very popular activities commonly used to relieve stress and allow a person to relax more efficiently. Some individuals prefer more specialized treatments such as professionally administered acupuncture or massages which effectively alleviate the physical manifestations and allow the mind to release emotional pressures. Other methods like aromatherapy or the application of deep heat or intense cold are also utilized.

Aromatherapy is the practice of using different smells to affect an individual's moods or alter their feelings. The effects are much more noticeable when the scents are emanating from natural substances such as dried lavender, sage and other fragrant herbs and spices. The right combination can calm the mind and soothe the soul.

A very common method used to relieve tension and soreness in the muscles is the direct application of cold or heat. Tightness relaxes and pain dulls as the temperatures penetrate the skin and seep deep into the tissues. Physical rehabilitation centers, sports doctors and spas often utilize this technique for clients and patients recovering from injuries or surgeries.

Individually, the application of intense temperatures and aromatherapy are both wonderfully effective techniques that are even better when used together. Physical therapists, doctors and relaxation specialists often use products that utilize this combination. Such items are available commercially as well, so that individuals may benefit from their healing and soothing properties in the privacy and comfort of their homes, at work or practically anywhere.

The most common delivery method for this type of therapy is through flexible forms, generally in the shape of a horseshoe or tube. These cloth structures are filled with substances such as flax, grape seed, wheat or buckwheat hulls, all of which are know for their ability to retain extreme temperatures for extended periods of time. Fragrant plant products like lavender, rose petals, sage, rosemary and others are added to emit calming scents.

Several different plants, herbs and spices can be combined to create a variety of soothing aromatic blends to please the olfactory senses and induce relaxation. When heated in the microwave or cooled in the freezer, the contents of the housing absorb the applied temperatures and release them slowly for up to an hour, into whatever body surface they are placed. Calming scents are released along with the coolness or the heat.

These items are most commonly meant to be draped over the shoulders, resting against the back and encompassing the base of the skull, though their aromatic and deep penetrating properties are also beneficial to the ankles, elbows and knees as well. This is a soothing therapy for conditions such as insomnia, tension, muscle cramps and both the emotional and physical effects of stress. The body and the mind are calmed by the temperatures and smells, promoting rejuvenation and relaxation.
